Tulkas: The Champion of the Valar

    My pseudonym for this class is Tulkas. In the readings we did earlier this week, we read about all the Valar including Tulkas, one of the seven male Valar. Tulkas is described as the greatest wrestler of all the Valar and swifter than any steed in the land. Tulkas descended to Arda later than the others when he saw the conflict with Melkor was becoming too great for the other Valar. Tulkas came down to Arda and shifted the tide in the war and drove Melkor out. Even though Tulkas is not the leader of the Valar (Manwe) he is still described as the only Valar Melkor truly fears.
    Tulkas is described as having golden hair and a golden beard. He has a strangely jolly and serious nature about him. The Silmarillion compares Orome and Tulkas saying "whereas Tulkas laughs ever, in sport or in war, and even in the face of Melkor he laughed in battles before the Elves were born". Tulkas has no fear of another, even Melkor because of how powerful a foe he can be. Tulkas married Nessa after the first conflicts with Melkor were decided and withdrew, waiting for Melkor to return.
