Relevance Post: Decision Making

This is a little late, seeing as we talked about this a little bit last Tuesday, I believe. But, I wanted to make one of my relevance posts about decisions Tolkien made in his books (or his character's decisions) vs. the decisions we make in our everyday lives. It was really interesting to break down the characters and their choices, and how they came into play with the rest of the text. Trusting someone is a huge decision to make, seeing as it could affect your well-being. The thing about decisions is that for the most part, they're irreversible. Once they've been made, we can't truly take them back. In a book, the reader gets to see how the decisions play out for the characters. In real life, we can't really do that. This has made me realize that it's actually like that for the characters as well. We may know the outcome of their decisions because we are familiar with the story, but they don't know. Knowing this, it gives me a weird confidence in my own decision making, to understand that everything doesn't turn out perfect, and that it is possible to make the wrong decision, but everything has a purpose, and in the end, it's going to turn out exactly how it's supposed to. We can't change certain things, and I'm learning to live with that.

Hi Ossö,

Your thoughts are great! It is a very unique thing to look at and examine time in a different way, as a viewer and not as an actor. The older we get, the more important I feel like the decisions we make become. As you said, the decisions we make are irreversible and time cannot be taken back. Having the outlook that every decision we make has a purpose, that there is no such thing as a wrong decision, and that everything will end up the way it is supposed in the end to can be extremely easing. There is a quote I love from Lottie Moon that I have posted in my office that states "I have a firm conviction that I am immortal until my work is done," and your post reminded me of this!
