Despair and Hope in The Lord of the Rings: Book V

I found it interesting that the dark storm that came out of Mordor and swept over Gondor was so menacing to the people of Gondor that they became irrational and full of despair and almost lost their way. Sometimes with that despair so dreadful and overwhelming that it blinds all senses, a new hope could lay unseen in ways that are unforeseeable like the sun breaking through the clouds of a hurricane. Théoden and his army found the way to Gondor blockaded by a much larger force and found an alternate route to take. The same storm that threatened Gondor with despair gave cover to the army of Rohan and because they were hid from Sauron's forces, Rohan had hope to make it to Gondor and help the besieged city. Sauron's dark storm full of despair and hopelessness actually backfired on him and was full of hope as well for it allowed Théoden and the army of Rohan access to Gondor hidden from his all-seeing eye and allow them to join up with Gondor and give the people of that city hope that they will prevail over Sauron's forces and win the field of battle.
