Meet the Authors: Sarah Baker

This week at Meet the Authors was the novelist author Sarah Baker. She has worked on many genres including romance, mystery, and erotica. Sarah said that she was originally an engineer before becoming a full time writer. She started writing when she wrote a fan-fiction episode of her favorite show. She submitted the episode to her fan group and was told by the editor of the episode that she had potential as a writer. Baker stumbled her way into the writing industry from there and has continued writing many books since then.
One of the most interesting points of the talk was that Baker seemed to accidentally get into many things that became a part of her life. She stumbled into being an engineer, she then stumbled into being a writer, and then stumbled into writing romance, and then mystery, and then stumbled into writing erotica. Her motivations fascinate me on how she wasn't as passionate about writing her entire life as almost all the authors so far, however she has been very successful as a writer even though she basically happened upon writing as a career. I wonder what shape my life may take if I happened upon things like Sarah did.
Her starting out as an engineer also struck me. Not many STEM majors become writer and less than that become full time, successful writers. One thing she mentioned help her get into writing was her ability to follow directions to go in the write path. I also find this interesting that she just goes along with whatever is presented to her and proceeds with both logical and creative thinking.
