Another Freewrite!

"...some of the most crucial parts of the text...in terms of hope and despair...are the more subtle moments when the specific characters have to reconcile the fact that they are not consumed by despair but clinging to hope."

I feel like this pretty much sums up the thesis statements we made in class last Tuesday. They pretty much all said something about certain decisions that had been made in the final part of The Two Towers and that Frodo chooses to follow Gollum because he has no other choice and that Gollum is his only hope. He really can't worry about whether or not Gollum is trustworthy because all he is focused on is taking the Ring to Mordor and destroying it. He is consumed by this despair so he clings to Gollum as his only form of hope. Sam kind of does this as well because even though he might feel as if they could get to Mordor without Gollum, he trusts and protects Frodo. Sam goes along with Frodo because he is hopeful that trusting in Frodo is enough to get them through.
